Description

Cosnap 250 250 mg Tablet

Indications: pain and inflammation in rheumatic disease (including JCA), adv-anced osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders; dysmenorrhoea, acute gout
Cautions: Should be used with caution in the elderly, in allergic disorders, during pregnancy and breast feeding, and in coagulative defects. In patients with renal, hepatic or cardiac impairment caution is required since the use of NSAIDs may result in deterioration of renal function.

Contraindications: Contraindicated in patients with active peptic ulceration, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. They should be avoided in patients with previous gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration, and should be withdrawn if gastro-intestinal lesions develop.They are also contra-indicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any other NSAIDs – which include asthma, angio-oedema, urticaria or rhinitis.

Side effects: Gastro-intestinal discomforts, diarrhoea, and occasionally bleeding and ulceration occur. Taking these drugs with food or milk may minimize dyspepsia. Concomitant use of ranitidine or any other H2 blocker is strongly recommended to counteract or minimize dyspepsia. Other side effects include hypersensitivity reactions (particularly rashes, bronchospasm and angioedema), headache, dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus, photosensitivity and haematuria. Blood disorders have also occurred.

Dose: by mouth, 0.5-1 g daily in 2 divided doses; CHILD over 5 years, for JCA, 10 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses. Acute musculoskeletal disorders and dysmenorrhoea, 500 mg initially, then 250 mg every 6-8 hours as required; max. dose after first day 1.25 g daily; CHILD under 16 years not recom-mended. Acute gout, 750 mg initially, then 250 mg every 8 hours until attack has passed
